Santander Bay archaeological and ethnographic tour

If you'd like to take this excursion, please enquire at the hotel reception.

If you don’t fancy covering too many kilometres, we’re offering you the chance to make a historical journey from prehistory to the present day in a tour with an archaeologist guide who will show you alternative archaeological sites in an easy-going day tour, very close to Santander.

Beginning with a prehistoric overview, we’ll visit the El Pendo cave in Escobedo de Camargo, after which we’ll move on the thermal baths at San Juan de Maliaño where we will look at some Roman and medieval history.

We’ll eat “Cachón de Camargo”, the area's traditional squid, usually eaten in stews, and we’ll visit the Cantabria Ethnographic Museum, birthplace of Pedro Velarde.

We’ll conclude the day with a visit to the lower church of Christ of the Cathedral and the roman baths inside. If the group is only interested in archaeology, later on we can visit the Cantabria Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology in Santander, accompanied by an archaeologist, instead of seeing the house of Pedro Velarde and the Chapel of Christ.
